This wasn’t meant to be the plan however I left my shoes at home so couldn’t do an easy run home from work.
Instead, once I got home I forced myself out into the darkness for a quick 5km. The legs felt a bit heavy and I just planned to run by feel with the aim of getting as close to 17 minutes as possible. This year I haven’t broken 17.40 (i’ve never raced the distance, just training runs), however it had been 6 weeks or so since I last had a crack.
The plan was to run by feel and only look to see how I was tracking every time my watched beeped to signal a kilometer had passed. The reps were:
All totted up that makes 16.35 which is easily the fastest i’ve ever run this distance in. So the signs are good, training is paying off and I’m getting faster. Mcmillan’s calculator estimates that this should equate to a 2.41 marathon, but I’m beginning to think now I could be in slightly better shape than that as my times tend to transfer slightly better and this wasn’t an all out race.
I just need to be mindful of peaking too early. The race is still a long way off yet.
