Today Phill and I headed to Iron Cove for the Sri Chinmoy series.
I was in the 14km race and Phill was doing the 7km. So two laps and 1 lap of The Bay.
My aim was to just run as hard as I could which it turned out wasn’t very hard! That’s to be expected after practically zero running since Christmas and an average of about 20km a week for March.
Well, it was a race of 2 halves. The first half was faster than the 2nd half. 14km’s really tested me. My lack of running really showed but I managed to hold on to 3rd place in a time of 53.40 (3.49’s per km). I was happy enough with that to be honest. It would’t have been too long ago when I would have been able to average 3.30’s per km but i’m a long way off that now.
Phill had a great race. She went in with no expectations and had a stormer! 37:** averaging 5.20’s!!
Pancakes after were spot on – and to be honest they were the real reason why we ran today.
I’m still umming and ahhing about Melbourne Marathon. I’ve been getting heavily into the weights and enjoying it. Stacking on muscle probably isn’t conducive to a fast marathon time but we’ll see.
My running at the moment is really consisting of short fast runs. Monday was 7km’s and Wednesday was 3.5km’s as an example. My legs are just too smashed from weight lifting to run. I’m sure i’ll miss the long runs at some stage but for now its heavy weights and intervals every other day. Sounds good to me.
